Whenever BTS has a new song to share with the world, it performs well pretty much everywhere it’s available to hear...or more importantly this time around, watch. The group’s videos are always instant smashes on YouTube, and time and time again they have broken records with ease.
The septet’s new single “Dynamite” has been unstoppable on the world’s most popular video site since it was first uploaded this past Friday (August 21), but that’s not enough for the band. They are taking no chances when it comes to sending their latest offering straight to No. 1 on the Hot 100, and YouTube is playing a big part in where the song will debut on the chart in just a few days.
Official Music Video
The official music video for “Dynamite,” released at the same time the track was made available to stream and buy, has become a blockbuster the likes of which has never been seen on the platform. The clip shattered the record for the largest premiere in YouTube history, and the carefree and colorful treatment was just recently confirmed to be the first upload ever to rack up over 100 million plays in its first 24 hours.
In its first full week, “Dynamite” should accrue a truly eye-popping number of views, with all of them (from those watching in the United States) helping push the tune higher and higher on the Hot 100...though BTS didn’t stop there.
B-Side
Just days after launching the official music video for “Dynamite,” BTS released a B-side clip, which is similar to the original, only it uses different angles and even includes some funny moments and bloopers not featured in the first visual. Since the two use the same song, views of both count toward the song’s YouTube total, and millions of fans are sure to watch both many times over.
“Sing ‘Dynamite’ With Me”
Around the mid-week point, several new clips were uploaded to BTS’s BANGTANTV account, and they also use “Dynamite” in an effort to keep that first-frame view sum expanding. On Tuesday (August 25), three new visuals were posted featuring BTS members Jin, Jimin and RM singing along while holding a phone selfie-style. Just days before, a similar treatment was shared first with all the vocalists present. All of these uploads were shared with the “Sing Dynamite...” title, stringing them together into a successful series.
Audio Only
With so many well thought out and expensive music videos around, what’s the point in sharing audio-only options? Essentially...why not? The band has now posted four static visuals that only feature the single’s cover and music playing, but the views those versions—the original, the instrumental, the acoustic recording and the EDM remix—gather also count toward the overall total.
Karaoke
In addition to all of the music videos already released, BTS’s record label in the U.S., Columbia, has been asking die-hard ARMYs (the name the fans have adopted for themselves) to record themselves lipsyncing along to the future smash and share it. The company is planning on editing them all together in some way and posting a karaoke visual at some point, and though it might not be out in time to be a part of “Dynamite” debuting at No. 1, it may help keep it in first place for a second frame or perhaps send it to the peak if it misses that spot as it first appears on the chart.
Most musicians, even some of the biggest in the business, typically just release one music video and an audio-only option to accompany their new singles, but BTS has now released 10, and it looks like they have more coming.
Those who have a casual interest in the band or the song itself may only watch the official treatment once, but super fans, those who will do anything to send “Dynamite” to No. 1, are likely pressing play on all 10 several times over...and all that activity could be enough to push the tune right to the top.
