Rachel Comey is partnering with Vote Forward and Swing Left to launch a new, nonpartisan get-out-the-vote initiative dubbed The Big Send at Work.
The new project encourages people to handwrite letters to underrepresented voters across the country. Data have shown that in addition to the long-standing tactic of old-fashioned door-to-door campaigning, handwritten letters are an effective way to encourage low-propensity voters to get to the polls.
Coinciding with Fashion Week starting Monday, September 14, from noon to 5 p.m., those who want to participate can visit Comey's store at 95 Crosby Street in New York. While there, participants will write letters along with the Comey team and receive a 10 percent discount as a thank-you for helping promote the cause.
Store employees will, of course, be adhering to social distancing guidelines, wearing masks, and offering hand sanitizer aplenty, and will be organizing and writing alfresco on the store's front stoop. Those who want to take part are welcome to make an appointment or just stop by.
The Big Send at Work isn't the only political project Comey is aligning herself with. The designer also created limited-edition merch alongside Fashion Our Future 2020, which aims to register one million voters ahead of this year's election.
