PARMA, Ohio -- One day on the internet, we saw this little dog for sale. We agreed to meet the seller, and when we saw the dog we knew we had to have her!
Missy, her new name, is a Japanese Chin. She has been our constant companion ever since. She would like to sleep on our bed but, because she is so small, we are afraid she could fall off and get hurt.
Missy will stay at the door to our bedroom at night. When the lights go out, she moves to her own bed. In the morning, she whimpers for Carol to take her out.
You need to know that my wife, Carol, and I both truly love this dog. Unfortunately, I needed to spend time in a hospital and more time in rehab. Perhaps because of that, Missy and Carol grew closer.
Yes, a dog is work. Missy is now blind in one eye and has some hearing loss, but still is 7 pounds of joy and love.
I invite you to read, “I Have You Now” by Karen Sandstrom. She is a writer and illustrator in Cleveland. This article appears in the March 2020 edition of “Real Simple.”
