LAKEWOOD, Ohio -- My rescue dog is Jenkins, a 22-month-old German shepherd.
German shepherds have long been a favorite of mine. My parents had one when I was a toddler, and before Jenkins, I had a 14-year-old German shepherd that I had to put down four years ago.
I told myself I was not going to get another dog. But my daughter started sending me text messages about dogs that were available for adoption from rescue groups. I saw a photo of Jenkins and applied to adopt him.
Jenkins was abandoned after his owners left him at a kennel. He was sent to the city dog warden in Columbus, then to a shelter, where he was rescued. He is an AKC-certified German shepherd.
He likes to go for walks and does not like being left alone. I have had him for three months, and he is right at home.
