Philadelphia Eagles can send New York Giants to playoffs with win over Washington - PennLive

PHILADELPHIA — The Eagles were the only one of the four NFC East teams who were eliminated from playoff contention entering Sunday, but the Birds can still exert their influence over the division race.

And now the Eagles know exactly how they can do that.

The Giants beat the Cowboys, 23-19, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, which means that if the Eagles beat the Washington Football Team on Sunday night, the Giants will win the NFC East and go to the playoffs.

If Washington beats the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field, the Football Team wins the division and heads to the playoffs as the NFC’s No. 4 seed.

Giants safety Xavier McKinney intercepted Cowboys quarterback Andy Dalton in the end zone with 1:15 left to help preserve the win for the Giants at the Meadowlands.

Giants quarterback Daniel Jones was 17 of 25 for 229 yards and two touchdowns with one interception, while wide receiver Sterling Shepard had eight catches for 112 yards and a touchdown.

Giants defensive end Leonard Williams had a big game with seven tackles, three sacks, three tackles for loss, five quarterback hits and a pass breakup.

If the Giants want the Eagles to help, it’s going to take some unexpected performances. On Friday, the Eagles ruled out nine players — including defensive tackle Fletcher Cox (neck), defensive end Derek Barnett (calf), running back Miles Sanders (knee) and tight end Dallas Goedert (calf) — because of injuries.

Quarterback Carson Wentz will reportedly be inactive for the game, too, which leaves Jalen Hurts to make his fourth straight start with Nate Sudfeld as his backup.

The Eagles are also without four of their top five defensive backs after cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday afternoon.

Washington is slated to start quarterback Alex Smith, who missed time with a calf injury recently, according to reports.

The Eagles and Washington are scheduled to kick off at 8:20 p.m. Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field. A couple hours later, the Giants should know their postseason fate.
