PROVIDENCE — Rhode Islanders who preregister through the state for COVID vaccination will be notified as soon as an appointment is available, the RI Department of Health announced Tuesday.
At noon Wednesday, from a regional vaccination site at the East Providence Senior Center, 610 Waterman Ave., Gov. Dan McKee will explain details about the preregistration program that launched Tuesday.
Rhode Islanders can preregister through the Vaccine Interest Notification List at portal.ri.gov. They will be asked to indicate how they want to be notified — by phone call, text message or email when an appointment is available, Department of Health spokesman Joseph Wendelken said in a news release.
Wendelken said those who ask to be notified by email will get their appointment details from sender no-reply@multistatep4p.com, the provider of the scheduling system the state is using.

They will also get a one-time-use link to claim the appointment at a state-run site. The link will be good for 24 hours, and the appointments are expected to be for a date two weeks in the future. For most people, the time of the appointment can be flexible, but the date and location will not change.
As appointments are claimed and some people continue to wait, the state will also send weekly email notices from RIDOH.DONOTREPLY@health.ri.gov to confirm they're still on the list.
The new preregistration system changes nothing about finding an appointment and claiming it on www.vaccinateRI.org or any other site without preregistering.
“Preregistration is simply one additional avenue we have created, but it is by no means required,” Wendelken said.
