BU’s 148th Commencement will look unlike any in history, with one more pandemic-struck tradition going by the boards. A ceremony that usually brings families together for joyful celebration will be a more muted event this year, with only students allowed on Nickerson Field, following government-mandated social distancing protocols.
Given that the families of this year’s graduates cannot be at the Commencement ceremony on the big day, we reached out and invited them to send us short video messages congratulating their Terrier. The response was overwhelming. We received videos from nearly 400 families recording messages of love and pride from their homes across the United States and every corner of the globe. We then recorded a handful of students as they watched and listened to the videos sent by their parents, brothers and sisters, and in some cases, extended family and compiled as many as possible into this heartfelt tribute to the Class of 2021.
Because of the extraordinary response, we were able to include only a fraction of the videos sent in, but please know that if you submitted a video, we will send it to your student in an email going out this week.
Special thanks to Kirsten Lundeen, Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) director of strategic engagement, Christy Loring, Dean of Students parent and family program director, and Jennifer Dallaire, DAR associate director for annual giving, for their assistance. We couldn’t have done this without them.
And to every family who sent videos, our deepest thanks. And to every member of the Class of 2021: congratulations and best wishes!
