PHILADELPHIA - For the second consecutive outdoor season, the La Salle University track and field program will send three Explorers to the NCAA Outdoor East Preliminary Championships, it was announced officially on Thursday. Graduate student Grace Mancini, senior Dennis Manyeah and junior El Mancini will all be heading to Jacksonville, Fla., to represent La Salle at the championships. This will be the third straight NCAA preliminary appearance for Grace and first time that she's qualified in two events, making it in both the 3000-meter steeplechase and the 5000-meter run. She ranks fifth in the region in the steeplechase behind her school-record time of 9:50.73, which she set on April 17 at the Quaker Invitational. Grace is also 25th in the 5K with a time of 15:58.40, which was also a school record set on April 9 at the Temple Invitational. A silver medalist in both events at the Atlantic 10 Championships, Grace will have a shot at reaching nationals for the first time in her track career.
Manyeah is another repeat preliminary qualifier for the Explorers, doing so in the high jump for the second consecutive outdoor season. The high-flyer has consistently hovered around the 7-foot mark, eclipsing that threshold twice this season. In his last appearance, Manyeah broke the Atlantic 10 Championship record in his gold-medal performance on May 2, leaping 2.15 meters (7' 0.5"). The last time he competed at the preliminary championships in 2019, he set a school record with a jump of 2.16 meters (7' 1.0") to place 15th.
Eleanor will be making her debut at the NCAA preliminary championships, earning a spot in the 10,000-meter run. She qualified during her 10K debut at the Raleigh Relays on March 25 when she ran 34:30.92 among some of the top distance runners in the region. Most recently, El won her first career gold medal at the Atlantic 10 Championships, taking home the 10K title with a time of 35:08.86.
The NCAA East Preliminary Championships will be hosted by the University of North Flordia in Jacksonville and will take place May 26-29.
