PARMA, Ohio -- I adopted my senior rescue dog, Reese, from the Parma PetSmart APL.
Two years ago, I was mourning the loss of my 14-year-old dog, Meah, who was the soulmate and love of my life, when I saw a picture of a dog on the APL website.
I immediately went to check her out, and when I looked at her sitting in her kennel, she had the saddest eyes I had ever seen. I asked about her story ,and the girl there told me she was an 8-year-old who had been surrendered with signs of neglect and malnutrition.
Being a senior dog, I was only the second person to even inquire about her. After we had our meet-and-greet, it was pretty obvious I was going to take her home. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.
At the kennel, they called her Sugar, because she was so sweet. But I thought she needed a new name for a new life. She now answers to Reese, so named for her chocolate and peanut butter brindle colors, and she has quickly become my new BFF.
