For the third time, Massachusetts health officials will send out telephone and text alerts to 4.5 million people warning of a surge of coronavirus cases.
The alert will hit both cellphones and landlines at approximately 5 p.m.
“Today’s message will remind residents of the serious risk of COVID-19 spread as we dive deeper into the Holiday Season. This message builds on the Command Center and the COVID-19 Enforcement Intervention Team’s (CEIT) efforts to ensure residents remain vigilant with COVID protections, including wearing a mask, washing hands, keeping your distance and avoiding groups,” state health officials said in a statement Thursday.
To date, the state has handed out 336,000 flyers, 338,000 masks, 16,000 bottles of hand sanitizer and placed 350 large sanitizer stands at businesses.
The alert comes as Wednesday’s COVID-19 virus count hit a new all-time, one-day high of 4,613, as the Herald reported. Today’s tally is expected within the hour.
