LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The United States Postal Service has seen one of the busiest years on record between the pandemic, the election, and now the holiday season.
On Wednesday, the Postal Service announced that a number of post offices across Nebraska will be open on Sundays throughout December to help with the holiday rush.
Mark Inglett, a regional spokesperson for USPS says they’re ready for the busy season.
“This is our time to shine, it’s our super bowl right now so what we do is we planned ahead, we brought seasonal employees on ahead of time, we’ve got them trained, well prepared so we’ve got them out there assisting us now to make sure we stay current and make sure we get those presents from Santa there early.”
Inglett says this year has stood out, bringing in a record number of people turning to them for service.
“We’re the most trusted federal agency and people have taken advantage of that and we’re so excited and happy to bet here for them,” Inglett says.
Some major delivery services are limiting shipping from major retailers like Nike, Gap, and Macy’s, due to an influx of orders. However, Inglett says you can count on USPS.
“The postal service has not set limitations at this time, however, I would share with everybody just like we ask every year, please go ahead and get things done early, plan ahead, mail early.”
And if you want those packages delivered by Christmas, you’ll want to send them no later than these dates.
“December 18th you’ll want to mail your first-class letters,” Inglett says. “December 19th, you can send priority mail. . . December 23rd or so is the last day you want to be messing [around], and that’s priority mail express, that’s the very last day.”
It’s always best, however, to send them as soon as possible.
“Again, we ask that you please go ahead and mail early that way we can get everything to you ahead of time and you can relax.”
Another great resource offered by the Postal Service is ‘Click-N-Ship,’ a service that allows you to do everything from home and avoid the post office. The tool allows consumers to print their shipping labels at home, and schedule a time for a USPS carrier to pick it up from your home.
Information about this, shipping deadlines and more can be found on the USPS official website.
